For Better or Worse

By Ayanda Xaba, South Africa

Sometimes you need to pat yourself on the shoulder

Tell yourself that everything will be okay

I do that sometimes

Other times in front of the mirror

Most times in bed

Hugging my breasts in fear that the wrecking heart will break them

“You will get through this,”

I whisper until I start to believe it

Until the tears dry

And the boobs break free
