By Rukh-Shana Namuyimba, Uganda:

Has anyone ever written anything for you

In your darkest hours,

Just to turn your tattered life freshly new?

Just to fill your sultry day with spring showers?

Has anyone ever given anything for you

In your deepest sorrow,

Just to turn your blues into the prettiest red hue?

Just to sprinkle your heart with the autumn dew?

Has anyone ever been anything for you

In your saddest moment

Just to show you their friendship was true

“Anything is the biggest thing sometimes,” he says

But Alas 'Anything' my passions will not allay.

I deeply desire not just anything

I lavishly long but for everything

The tingling of truth

The neonates of nobility

The rosiness of righteousness

The perfection of purity

The luster of that which is lovely

The aura of that which is admirable

Alas 'Anything' my passions will not allay.

My deepest desire – that which is excellent

My lavish longing – that which is praiseworthy

And that is not just 'Anything'
